2008 Bearcat Ball - November 15, 2008

10th Anniversary Bearcat Ball
November 15, 2008
The Merchandise Mart, River Entrance
7 p.m. - Benefactor Reception
8 p.m. - Bearcat Ball

Thank you for your support of the 9th Annual Bearcat Ball. Through the generous contributions of donors, sponsors and attendees, the Associate Board was able to raise a record amount to benefit RIC's Pediatric Charity Care Program. We look forward to your participation in the 10th Anniversary event this fall.

About the Bearcat Ball
The Associate Board hosts the annual Bearcat Ball to benefit the Rehabilitation Institute's Pediatric Charity Care Program, which offers prosthetic devices and specialized treatment to children with disabilities whose families cannot afford this care.

The Bearcat Ball is named for the Stutz Bearcat, a luxury automobile manufactured in the 1920s purported to have carried the heroes and heroines of author F. Scott Fitzgerald's day to yacht clubs and dinner dances and secluded roadhouses. The ultimate statement of class, style and luxury, the Bearcat is as much a symbol of 1920s youth as hip flasks
and raccoon coats.

10th Anniversary Bearcat Ball
On Saturday, November 15, more than 500 people will gather at The Merchandise Mart to celebrate the 10th Annual Bearcat Ball and help raise funds for RIC Pediatric Charity Care. The black-tie evening includes live music, casino gaming, food from the city's top restaurants and a silent auction.

Tickets
Tickets are NOW on sale for the 2008 Bearcat Ball. Individual tickets start at $140. You can purchase online, by phone at 312-238-1253 or by downloading the ticket order form and faxing to 312-238-5973. Purchased reservations will be held at the door, no tickets will be mailed.

Tree of Life Award
Each year the Tree of Life Award is presented at the Bearcat Ball by the Associate Board to an individual or individuals, who have shown through their actions and example, great character and spirit.

The award is based on the tapestry by Marc Chagall that hangs in the entryway of RIC and bears the inscription: "For there is hope of a tree/ If it be cut down that it will sprout again/And that the tender branch therefore will not cease."

Edward M. Burke, 14th Ward Alderman, was honored with the prestigious 2007 Tree of Life award. Ald. Burke has been responsible for ensuring that firefighters and police officers injured while protecting Chicago receive the best possible rehabilitative care. The Tree of Life Award, created by renowned sculptor Richard Hunt, was presented during a
special Benefactor Reception at the opening of the Ball.
