Your Commitment
A vital key to having a successful volunteer experience is maintaining
a consistent and dependable schedule. By coming according to
your agreed upon schedule, you will get to know the patients
and staff. As the staff gets to know you they will involve you
more in patient activities. Associate Board members should plan
on a 3-hour commitment each month.
Volunteer Assignment
The Associate Board volunteer program has been centralized
around the pediatrics and adolescence unit based on needs
of the staff and interests of our members. But should you
prefer to volunteer in another area that can easily be arranged.
Please let Sarah Crane or the volunteer resources staff know
so that we may explore other options.
Orientation and Training
You will participate in a general orientation providing information
on RIC and volunteering. Training for your assignments will
be provided by volunteer resources staff, your supervisor
and/or a trained volunteer.
Your Schedule
If your schedule changes or you will be absent on a particular
day(s), it is important to let the volunteer resources staff
know as soon as possible. Additionally Associate Board members
should try to locate an alternate to attend in their absence.
Evaluation of Your Service
During your volunteer services you will be provided opportunities
to evaluate your experiences in a written and/or verbal format.
We value your comments and encourage you to take advantage
of these opportunities. Please don't hesitate to speak with
a volunteer resources staff member should you have any comments
or suggestions - positive or negative.
Termination of Your Volunteer Commitment
We hope, and expect, that your volunteer service will be personally
satisfying and mutually beneficial and you will continue your
volunteer service for a long time. We do ask that if you must
terminate your volunteer service, let us know as soon as possible
so that we may make the proper arrangements. Volunteers who
violate RIC policies and procedures may face disciplinary
actions ranging from warnings to service termination.
Signing In and Out
All volunteers must sign in and out when coming to volunteer.
This is important for legal and recognition purposes. On your
first day you will be shown where to sign in and out.
Recognition
Your volunteer service is valued by the patients, family and
staff at RIC. We may not always see you to say "thank
you" but know that we appreciate everything you do. Formal
recognition is provided through award pins for hours and years
of service and an annual volunteer recognition luncheon.
Personal Belongings
At the RIC main hospital (345 E. Superior) in the Volunteer
Resources office there are lockers and keys for your belongings.
At other volunteer sites check with staff.
Phone calls
We ask that you do not make or receive personal phone calls
while volunteering except for emergencies.
