The Associate Board of the Rehabilitation Institute
of Chicago (RIC) is comprised of a group of emerging civic
and business leaders who volunteer and raise funds and awareness
for RIC. The Board has been in existence since 1990 and currently
boasts more than 110 members.
Associate Board members support the hospital
in many different ways. Some volunteer on the pediatric patient
floor at RIC's flagship hospital, where they interact with
children and adolescents receiving rehabilitation care. Others
prefer to work on the Associate Board's signature annual fundraising
events, the Bearcat Ball
or ArtFutura. All members
focus on raising awareness of the hospital and its commitment
to making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.
The Associate Board supports two main areas
within the RIC. RIC's Pediatric
Charity Care Program provides prosthetic devices and specialized
treatment for children with disabilities whose families cannot
otherwise afford their care. The Board also supports the Therapeutic
Recreation Department by subsidizing the salary of a part-time
art therapist at RIC and providing art supplies annually.
